New school closure option presented for Summerland
PENTICTON – The Okanagan Skaha school board is looking at another option as it plans for a possible school closure in Summerland.
Board Chair Linda Van Alphen says in an email, feedback from surveys, emails and presentations in Summerland have indicated there may be another publicly acceptable option to closing Giants Head school and moving 350 students to a retrofitted middle school.
“The option presented to us was that Trout Creek Elementary closes and Giants Head becomes a Kindergarten to grade three, while the middle school becomes a grade four to grade seven, and the high school becomes a grade eight to grade 12 school,” Van Alphen says in the email.
The opportunity to comment on school closures is open until Jan. 15 through the school district website or directly to board members via email.
A meeing on the possible school closure is slated to take place at Trout Creek Elementary school on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
Van Alphen says the final decision on all options presented to the board will be publically announced on Jan. 20.
