Penticton RCMP report quiet New Year’s Eve

PENTICTON – Police report few incidents New Year's Eve in Penticton, but answered several calls for vehicle thefts last week.

Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says it was a relatively peaceful New Year’s Eve in the city, with only three impaired drivers.

Wrigglesworth says festivities were quiet at Apex Mountain Resort as well, calling the night “manageable.” The detachment, with beefed up patrols, handled 30 calls for service New Year’s Eve.

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, police stopped a female driver, who was arrested after a check revealed she was a prohibited driver. Police also found heroin and a collapsible baton on her person. She is being held on drug charges and breach of probation.

An unlicensed, prohibited driver had his vehicle, a 1995 Mercury Mystique impounded on December 29.

Later the same evening, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup failed a roadside screening device and received a 90 day driving prohibition.

Sometime during the night on Dec. 30, a Ford F350 dually pickup was taken from a Vancouver Avenue residence. Tools from the vehicle were found nearby and the truck itself was found in the Marron Valley Road area. The vehicle will be recovered when better conditions prevail at the scene.

A man reported to police he’d been hit by a car on Brunswick Street at approximately 2:45 p.m., Jan. 1. He was found lying on the ice, where he reported to police he’d slipped and then was run over by a car. Police could not find any evidence to back up the man's claims and he appeared to have suffered no injuries.
