Vernon man handed jail term for child porn offence

VERNON – A Vernon man has been sent to prison after getting caught possessing child pornography.

A Vernon provincial court judge sentenced Karl David Lawrence to nine months in jail for the offence, longer than the four to six months requested by Crown counsel during sentencing.

Police began investigating Lawrence in March 2014 when suspected child pornography activity was picked up on his IP address.

Officers executed a search warrant at his home in April 2014, and discovered he had videos of girls — between three and 15 — in his possession that met the definition of child pornography.

Lawrence admitted to viewing, accessing and downloading the videos, and told police he knew it was wrong but couldn’t help it because he was addicted.
