Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (15,388.43, up 62.12 points):

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up four cents, or 1.54 per cent, to $2.64 on 16.5 million shares. A news report, later denied by a Quebec government minister, suggested the transportation giant was looking to either sellor spin off of its railway division in a deal that could be worth up to US$5 billion.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up 31 cents, or 0.79 per cent, to $39.68 on 9.7 million shares.

Mandalay Resources Corp, (TSX:MND). Miner. Up six cents, or 7.41 per cent, to 87 cents on 7.1 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Oil and gas. Up three cents, or 0.14 per cent, to $22.13 on 6.9 million shares.

Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G). Miner. Up 63 cents, or 2.66 per cent, to $24.29 on 6.4 million shares.

Tethys Petroleum Limited (TSX:TPL). Oil and gas. Down five cents, or 45.45 per cent, to six cents on 5.7 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Cara Operations Ltd. (TSX:CAO). $32.90 on 5.5 million shares. Shares in the Canadian restaurant company — owner of the Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet and other restaurant chains — began trading publicly for the first time in more than a decade on Friday and quickly jumped about 40 per cent above the $23 IPO price set for the offering.
