Police: Man shot woman at Alabama doctor’s office, fled to nearby home, believed to be armed

JEMISON, Ala. – A gunman entered a doctor’s office in a small Alabama town, shot a woman and fled to a nearby home, where he remains, police said Monday.

Jemison police chief Shane Fulmer said Monday that the man is believed to be armed at the residence. The man entered the doctor’s office this morning with a small-calibre handgun, Fulmer said.

The status of the victim isn’t known.

Later Monday, there was a series of loud pops near the house. Within moments an ambulance pulled up, and emergency workers could be seen loading a person into the back of the ambulance. The ambulance then left with its siren on.

Jemison is a small town about 40 miles south of Birmingham. Nearby roads and businesses were closed. At least 10 police cars were on the scene. Ambulances blocked the highway in front of the building, with rescue personnel going in and out. Local schools went on lockdown.
