SaskTel records profit of $76.4M for 2014; landlines cut, long distance down

REGINA – SaskTel is reporting a profit of $76.4 million for 2014.

The Crown corporation says the increase is partly due to an increase in MaxTV subscribers.

CEO and president Ron Styles says the corporation will start offering “skinny packages” and pick and pay methods to follow the federal government’s new regulations.

Styles says while no official guideline has been set out, he says some U.S. companies have refused to sell pick and pay and will still bundle their channels such as Viacom.

Sasktel has also hinted it will offer CraveTV within a few months to compete with Netflix.

It also reports that 26,000 phone landlines were dropped in 2014 and long-distance revenues declined by $4.5 million.
