Police incident closes border crossing between Surrey, B.C. and Washington state

SURREY, B.C. – An incident has prompted the RCMP to close the Douglas border crossing in Surrey, B.C.

Kelsie Carwithen with the B.C. Ambulance Service says one air and two ground ambulances are on the scene.

She says the service was called just before 2 p.m., but couldn’t provide further details.

A spokeswoman with the Canada Border Services Agency says traffic is being diverted around the crossing, also known as the Peace Arch crossing.

A provincial travellers’ report says Highway 99 is closed in both directions two kilometres north of the Washington border.

There is currently no estimated time the road will re-open.
