Kelowna RCMP warn cougar spotted in Glenmore

KELOWNA – RCMP in Kelowna have issued a warning about a cougar sighting in the Glenmore area last night.

The big cat was spotted on Bello Road near Knox Mountain Park around 6 p.m., Jan. 15, according to a media release.

Police are urging parents of small children and pet owners to “exercise caution in that area for the near term.”

The B.C. Conservation Service says cougar and bobcat sightings are up in Kelowna this winter as the animals hunt for food. Cougars will hunt deer and pets.

Conservation officer Terry Myroniuk encourages people to report sightings so they can monitor animal behaviour and movements. Cougars that start hanging around one particular area tend to become problems, he says.
