Crashes keeping emergency crews busy in South Okanagan

PENTICTON – The slippery roads in the South Okanagan kept emergency crews hopping today as they responded to car crashes.

At around 2 p.m., Jan. 16, crews were on the scene of a two-car crash in the intersection of Eckhardt Avenue West and Winnipeg Street, according to witness reports.

Ambulance paramedics treated the drivers who were the lone occupants of each vehicle.

A half hour earlier around 1:30 p.m., first responders were called to a crash on Highway 97 north near Summerland. A pickup truck lost control and hit a concrete barrier. No one was seriously hurt.

The new snow today and mild temperatures have combined to create extremely slippery roads throughout the southern Interior.
