Terry Gould wins J.W. Dafoe Book Prize for book on little-known police unit
TORONTO – Vancouver investigative journalist Terry Gould has won this year’s $10,000 J.W. Dafoe Book Prize.
Gould took the honour Thursday for “Worth Dying For: Canada’s Mission to Train Police in the World’s Failing States” (Random House Canada).
He beat out four other finalists and jury members called Gould’s book “a moving account of the difficulties and dangers faced by volunteer members of the RCMP and Canadian civic police forces involved in training recruits in many international conflict zones.”
The prize, which honours non-fiction about Canada, is named after a prominent Canadian editor.
The award will be presented at the J.W. Dafoe Foundation’s Annual Book Prize Dinner on May 14 in Winnipeg.
