Canadian swimmer’s body washes onto Florida beach day after man goes missing

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Officials say they believe the body of a missing Canadian swimmer has washed up onto a Florida beach.

Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Marris says a beachgoer found the body Tuesday morning in Ormond-by-the-Sea, which is 18 kilometres north of the spot where the Canadian man went missing Monday afternoon.

Marris tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal that the man was vacationing with two friends in Daytona Beach.

She says he was known to have seizures.

The newspaper says the man had been in the water with friends when he disappeared.

Marris says there was a strong current to the north on Monday and the beach officials were flying the red warning flag.

The man’s name hasn’t been released.
