Fortin tests positive for banned substance at CFL regional combine
TORONTO – Jonathan Fortin, a defensive back at Bishop’s University, tested positive for a banned substance at the CFL’s regional combine in Montreal in March.
Under terms of the CFL’s new drug policy, Fortin, who was eligible for this year’s draft, will have his draft year deferred to 2017.
The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport tested 80 athletes who participated in regional combines as well as the league combine in Toronto in March. Fortin’s positive test was the lone violation.
If Fortin successfully appeals the positive test, he’ll be eligible for the 2016 CFL supplemental draft, which will take place no later than 60 days after the league draft.
