The Latest: $15,000 reward to catch Death Valley bingers

AMARGOSA VALLEY, Nev. – The Latest on the hunt for three men who went on drunken binge in Death Valley National Park (all times local):

Conservationists have upped the award to $15,000 for information on three men who went on a drunken binge in a fragile area of Death Valley National Park — and may have killed one of the world’s rarest fishes.

The Center for Biological Diversity on Monday offered $10,000 for information leading to arrests and convictions. The National Park Service is offering $5,000.

The Park Service says the men went to Devils Hole in Nevada on April 30, drank, fired off a shotgun at least 10 times and left beer cans and vomit.

One man swam in — then left his boxer shorts in — the Devils Hole, a hot pool that’s the only natural home to the Devils Hole pupfish. Only around 100 of the tiny fish live there. Officials on Monday found a dead pupfish. They’ll try to determine if the men’s actions killed it.

Authorities are looking for three men who went on a drunken shooting binge in Death Valley National Park, leaving behind beer cans, vomit and possibly killing one of the rarest fishes on Earth.

The National Park Service says the men climbed a fence guarding Devils Hole, a detached portion of the park located in southwestern Nevada, on April 30.

The Park Service says they fired a shotgun at least 10 times and one man swam in Devils Hole, a hot-water pool that is the only natural home of the tiny Devils Hole pupfish. The man left his boxer shorts in the water.

On Monday, authorities found a dead pupfish. Authorities will try to determine whether the men’s actions killed it.

The Park Service is offering $5,000 for information leading to arrests.
