Driver involved in Penticton car crash dies in hospital

PENTICTON – The 88-year-old man rushed to hospital last weekend following a car crash has died as a result of complications from his injuries.

Emergency crews were called to the two-car crash around 1:50 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 16 in the intersection of Eckhardt Avenue and Winnipeg Street.

RCMP say a westbound Hyundai Accent driven by a 65-year-old Penticton woman drove through a red light hitting a Dodge Spirit driven by the 88-year-old man who was westbound on Winnipeg Street through a green light.

“The initial impact of the collision sent the white Dodge sedan veering off to the left and into a power pole,” Corp. Dan Moskulak says in a media release.

The man was taken to Penticton Regional Hospital, where he died on Jan. 18.

The woman was ticketed for running the red light, and Moskaluk says further charges are “not presently anticipated” given the findings of investigators.

The B.C. Coroners Service continues to investigate with help from the RCMP.
