‘Dear Evan Hansen’ making the jump to Broadway

NEW YORK – “Dear Evan Hansen,” a musical about growing up in the age of social media, will make the jump to Broadway this November.

Producer Stacey Mindich said Wednesday the show will move from Second Stage Theatre to a Broadway theatre to be announced later. There was no word on casting.

In the show, songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul teamed up with writer Steven Levenson to explore how people use social media to involve themselves in tragic situations. Off-Broadway, it starred Ben Platt from “Pitch Perfect” fame.

In the story, Evan Hansen is a lonely misfit who writes a private letter to himself that accidentally is made public. The show is directed by Michael Greif and got its start at Washington’s Arena Stage.
