BURNABY, B.C. – RCMP say an officer with the Burnaby, B.C., detachment was injured while investigating two vehicles for suspected street racing.
The vehicles had been stopped by Port Mann Traffic Services for allegedly driving 45 kilometres an hour above the speed limit on Highway 1 on Wednesday night.
The RCMP officer assisting the investigation was sitting in a vehicle at the side of the highway when another vehicle rammed it from behind.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the cruiser fled on foot but police have since arrested a suspect.
The officer sustained minor injuries and has been released from hospital.
Police are continuing the investigation for both the crash and the alleged street racing and charges may be considered.
