Extreme turbidity forces DCW to tap into alternative water source

Residents with water piped from Duteau Creek Water will be getting theirs from another source today because of extreme turbidity.

The utility is turning off the tap and providing water from Kalamalka Lake source through Mission Hill Treatment Plant. With the change of source, Greater Vernon Water says no ill health effects are expected. The change will be in effect until further notice.

High turbidity could compromise the ability to treat drinking water to standards. Staff is investigating the cause of contamination and will give customers details when the information is available.

Customers are asked not to use water outdoors and to minimize all water use until further notice. All irrigation watering is restricted at this time to ensure water pressure and quality is adequate for customers.
