No ifs, ands. But plenty of butts. Winnipeg man recycles 41,767 cigarette butts

WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg chain smoker is being called a “rock star” by a global recycling company.

TerraCycle Canada provides free waste collection programs for things that are hard to recycle, such as cigarette butts.

Winnipegger Daryl Hill has been saving his for a while now and with the help of friends and family, he’s collected an awful lot.

Vanessa Farquharson, a spokeswoman for TerraCycle, says so far Hill has shipped the company 41,767 butts.

She says TerraCycle converts the cigarette waste into plastic shipping pallets and composts the extra tobacco.

Hill says he’s surprised that some people just toss their cigarette butts on the ground. (CJOB)
