Penticton police chase results in shots fired

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP have two suspects in custody after a police incident involving shots fired in Penticton yesterday, Thursday, Jan. 21.

Penticton RCMP police spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth reports at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, a Penticton RCMP officer attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle with two occupants in it in the Skaha Hills area south of the city.

The vehicle fled at high speeds and was later located on Yorkton Avenue, and followed prior to a second attempt being made to stop it.

The vehicle raced away once more, and was subsequently located by a lone officer, when a collision occurred. The officer fired two shots, and the vehicle sped away, only to be boxed in by other officers a short distance away on Valleyview Road.

Two people, a 23-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were taken into custody.

Penticton police Superintendent Kevin Hewco said he was thankful neither officers nor suspects were injured.

“This is a serious incident that is currently under investigation,” he said.

A report of the incident is being forwarded to Crown Counsel to determine charges to be laid.

Anyone who witnessed any events in this incident is asked to come forward to police to provide their information.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
