2 ex-Dixie State women’s basketball players allege sexual, racial discrimination in lawsuit
ST. GEORGE, Utah – Two former Dixie State University women’s basketball players are accusing the college of racial, sexual and religious discrimination in a federal lawsuit.
The Spectrum newspaper in St. George, Utah, reports (http://bit.ly/1HtQaMI ) the two women allege former women’s basketball coach Catherria Turner treated black players differently than white players and harassed them about their sexual orientation.
Nanea Woods and Austen Harris accuse Turner of allowing her father to be a co-coach even though he wasn’t employed by school. They also say Turner forced them to practice without water.
Dixie State spokesman Steve Johnson says the university doesn’t comment on pending lawsuits.
The Associated Press also sought a response to the allegations from Turner but couldn’t verify whether she has a listed telephone number or an attorney.
Turner was fired in November after less than two years in the job.
