Kelowna Rockets blank visiting Tigers

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-0 on Saturday night, Jan. 23, at Prospera Place extending its winning streak to four games.

Rookie Braydyn Chizen scored his first ever WHL goal and added an assist while Michael Herringer earned the win in net as the Rockets improved to 33-11-3-0 on the season.

For Herringer, it was his first shutout of the season while Justin Kirkland added a goal and an assist in the win.

The Rockets scored twice in each of the first two periods, jumping out to a 4-0 lead on the Tigers.

Chizen opened the scoring before Kirkland made it 2-0 Rockets after the first period. Tyson Baillie scored his team-leading 28th of the season in the second period. Calvin Thurkauf also scored for the Rockets.

Kelowna dominated the shots on goal, outshooting the Tigers 47-16 in the game.

The Rockets are now idle until next weekend when they will play three games in three nights, closing out a five game homestand. Kelowna plays host to Portland on Friday and Victoria on Saturday before travelling to Seattle for a Sunday afternoon tilt.

In the meantime, the Rockets are having a community event at Black Mountain from noon to 2 p.m. today where fans can meet the team and get autographs and pictures
