LOS ANGELES – The Latest on a lawsuit claiming the intro to Led Zeppelin’s hit “Stairway to Heaven” was copied from another band’s song (all times local):

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page have completed testimony and the defence has rested in the trial of a copyright lawsuit claiming they stole a riff from the band Spirit for the intro to the hit “Stairway to Heaven.”

Both Plant and Page testified Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles about how they created the rock classic.

Closing arguments in the case are scheduled for Wednesday.

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant says his memory of encounters 40 years ago is foggy and he does not remember hanging out with the band Spirit.

Plant took the stand Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles at a copyright trial in which he and songwriter Jimmy Page are accused to stealing a riff from a Spirit song for “Stairway to Heaven.”

Plant says he never owned a Spirit album, but he knew one of their songs from a compilation album.

Plant says he knows that Spirit played a show in Birmingham, England, but he was in a bad car wreck that night and has no memory of the evening.

Plant says that based on testimony from the past week he has no recollection of almost anyone he’s hung out with. The remark caused an eruption of laughter in the court.
