Council will be presented with two master plans for approval today and both will be the first step towards improving the walking and cycling routes around the city.
The trails plan will help “develop an extensive, sensitive trail network throughout Kamloops with recreation opportunities for all user types.”
Created to work in conjunction with the pedestrian plan and the 2010 Bicycles Master Plan, the trails plan will cover the Rivers Trail and designated trails and paths through parks and open spaces in Kamloops.
The pedestrian master plan will help the city identify the needs and deficiencies to develop a safe and efficient network of walking areas. The plan helps outline safety and demand ratings as well as how to best implement appropriate strategies.
Once council approves the trails plan an implementation program will be set in place that will see a priority system determined.
