The Latest: 3 dead, 5 injured in fiery Los Angeles crash

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Latest on a fiery crash in Los Angeles (all times local):

10:22 a.m.

Three people are dead and five others injured after a fiery collision involving four vehicles in the Los Angeles community of Woodland Hills.

Los Angeles Police Department officer James Norton says the crash began when a 2015 Ford Mustang collided with a 2015 Mercedes exiting a Chevron gas station.

The Mustang then collided with a 2015 Chevy Malibu travelling the opposite direction and a parked 2012 Honda Accord.

A vehicle caught fire.

Police say bystanders used fire extinguishers and buckets of water to hold back the flames until firefighters arrived.

Three people were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Their names have not been released, pending notification of family.

Norton says the cause of the crash remains under investigation

Officials say three people have been killed and two others seriously injured following a fiery, four-car accident in Woodland Hills, California that shut down Ventura Boulevard in both directions.

The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/28VQzvl) the accident happened about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 20900 block of Ventura Boulevard.

Brian Humphrey with the Los Angeles Fire Department says passersby used fire extinguishers and buckets of water to tamp down flames after a car caught fire and trapped two people inside.

Eight people were involved in the accident. Three refused medical attention. Two of the people taken to the hospital were listed in serious condition.

No further information was immediately available.

Ventura Boulevard between De Soto and Paralta avenues was closed as the investigation continued.
