Liberals in Penticton riding to choose new candidate to run in 2013 election

PENTICTON, B.C. – Members of B.C.’s Liberal party in Penticton will nominate a new candidate today to run in the 2013 provincial election.

Two Okanagan mayors are among the four people hoping to be picked for the job.

They are Penticton Mayor Dan Ashton, Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino, local businessman Mark Ziebarth and Connie Denesiuk, the past president of the BC School Trustees Association.

The winner will replace MLA Bill Barisoff, the outgoing speaker of the legislature.

On Sunday, New Democrats in the hotly contested riding of Vancouver-Fairview will nominate their candidate for the May 2013 election.

Sierra Club executive director George Heyman and Vancouver city Coun. Geoff Meggs are vying for the position.
