UPDATE: Driver seriously injured in head-on crash near Okanagan Falls

OKANAGAN FALLS – Highway 97 south of Okanagan Falls is closed following a head-on crash between a logging truck and a car this afternoon.

RCMP say the crash happened at about 1 p.m., Jan. 24, at the north end of Vaseux Lake. A Toyota Corolla crossed the centre line and hit an oncoming logging truck head-on.

The logging truck, which wasn’t carrying a load of logs, burst into flames.

A 46-year-old local woman was taken to Penticton Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the truck driver has minor injuries, police say.

RCMP say Highway 97 will be closed in both directions until about 3:30 p.m. when it will reopen to single-lane traffic through nearby Vaseux Lake Provincial Park.
