NAKUSP – Two mobile homes were evacuated in Nakusp after RCMP found explosives during an execution of a search warrant this week.
Nakusp RCMP searched the home in the Canyon Trailer Park on 9A Avenue Jan. 25, as part of an ongoing investigation into the illegal possession of explosives.
A man was home when police arrived and was taken into custody when officers noticed what appeared to be dynamite and a blasting cap in the home. An RCMP explosives unit and bomb-sniffing dog were called in and the items were determined to be explosives.
The EDU members removed the items and transported them to a location to be safely detonated, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said Tuesday morning.
Johann Blattnig, who is in his 30s, was arrested and charged with one count of possession of explosives for an unlawful purpose. He was taken into custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday Jan. 27.
