B.C.’s Curtis Taylor among seven Canadians picked on Day 2 of MLB draft
Seven Canadians were selected on Day 2 of the MLB draft on Friday, bringing the number of total drafted Canadians to nine heading into Day 3.
Curtis Taylor of Port Coquitlam, B.C., was the first Canadian off the board Friday when the Arizona Diamondbacks took him in the fourth round. Ten picks later, Charles LeBlanc of Laval, Que., was picked by the Texas Rangers.
Right-hander Jordan Balazovic of Mississauga, Ont., went to the Minnesota Twins while Greenfield Park, Que., native Abraham Toro-Hernandez was nabbed by the Houston Astros, both in the fifth round.
The Detroit Tigers selected Windsor, Ont., native Jacob Robson in the eighth round. Alex Webb of Surrey, B.C., went to the Cincinnati Reds and Toronto’s Daniel Pinero was picked by Detroit in the ninth.
Day 1 of the draft saw Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ont., go eighth overall to San Diego and Toronto’s Andrew Yerzy selected in the second round by Arizona.
