Young girl, disabled uncle die in New York house fire

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – A young girl and her disabled uncle have died in a house fire in New York.

Fire Chief Ray Senecal says seven people were inside the two-story Schenectady (skeh-NEHK’-ta-dee) home when flames broke out early Tuesday morning. Three people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after jumping from second-story windows to escape.

Relatives at the scene say a 5-year-old girl and her 26-year-old uncle were trapped and died in the fire.

Officials say the blaze is not considered suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing.
