Police review agency rules 2 officer shootings unjustified
Chicago’s Independent Police Review Authority has ruled as unjustified two shootings by officers who fired into vehicles.
In one case, Ryan Rogers was shot to death in the Chicago suburb of East Hazel Crest in 2013 by an officer investigating a series of electronic store robberies.
The officer allegedly told investigators he fired four times because Rogers drove an SUV at him. IPRA’s ruling said the evidence showed at least one shot was fired after the officer was no longer in danger.
In the other case, two officers in 2015 shot and wounded Antwon Golatte as he drove off in his SUV as the police tried to stop him after an alleged drug transaction. IPRA ruled both officers were out of the vehicle’s path when they fired.
The agency made no recommendation on punishment for the officers involved.
