
Air pistol leads to lockdown at Vernon high school
VERNON – A Vernon high school was put on lockdown today after a report someone may have entered the building with a weapon.
According to a release from School District 22, a neighbour called Vernon Secondary School around 9 a.m., Jan. 27, to make the report.
“The school immediately went to lockdown and the RCMP responded quickly,” Supt. Joe Rogers says in the release. “After searching the building a student with an Airsoft pistol was located and is currently being interviewed by the RCMP.”
The lockdown was lifted at 9:50 a.m. The RCMP and the school district safe schools’ team will continue to investigate the situation, Rogers says.
“At no time was any student or staff member in danger and the District Threat Assessment Protocol was effectively followed,” Rogers says.
