Argentine judge seeks to solve 1936 Garcia Lorca killing
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Spaniards stymied at home in trying to determine who killed famed writer Federico Garcia Lorca during the Spanish Civil War and where he was buried are now placing their hopes on an Argentine judge.
Judge Maria Servini de Cubria has agreed to take up the case of one of the greatest unsolved crimes of the era of the late Spanish dictator Francisco Franco. The petitioning activists say she has jurisdiction because Garcia Lorca’s 1936 death is considered a crime against humanity and as such knows no borders.
The lawyer behind the initiative is Maximo Castex of the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory.
He told The Associated Press Friday that the judge requested a 1965 police report the case and also requested of Spain’s interior minister all related documentation.
