Bahamas detains 112 migrants from Haiti at sea near Exuma

NASSAU, Bahamas – Officials in the Bahamas say a large group of migrants from Haiti has been detained at sea near the island of Exuma.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force says a patrol plane spotted the migrant boat about 5 miles west of the island in the central Bahamas on Monday. A military vessel was sent to intercept them. A defence force statement says 112 migrants were detained and taken to Exuma.

Officials say the 95 men and 17 women appear to be in good health. They are expected to be moved to a holding facility on New Providence and later sent back to Haiti.
