Two dead, three injured after car crashes into tree, pole in downtown Vancouver

VANCOUVER – Two people are dead after their vehicle hit a tree in downtown Vancouver, knocking it down and injuring three pedestrians.

Const. Brian Montague says a white Lexus was travelling north on Seymour Street around 5:30 p.m. Monday when the driver lost control.

He says the vehicle left the road, struck a large tree and then a lamp post.

Both the man and the woman in the car were killed instantly.

Montague says the pedestrians were struck by the falling tree and flying debris and taken to hospital, where two of them remained with significant injuries Monday night.

He says investigators are looking into the cause of the crash but he expects speed will be a contributing factor.
