Minor injuries when school bus runs onto bank of canal

METAIRIE, La. – A school bus carrying 34 students ran off a road and onto the bank of a drainage canal in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie.

Pictures from New Orleans media showed the hood of the bus partially covered by muddy water after Tuesday afternoon’s accident.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said all of the students were able to get out of the bus. Three students were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver was cited for careless operation.

The accident happened about 1:35 p.m. soon after the bus left T.H. Harris School in Metairie.
