Skate Canada announces bid to host 2020 world figure skating championships
OTTAWA – Skate Canada will formally bid to host the 2020 world figure skating championships, the organization announced on Monday.
The International Skating Union confirmed the receipt of Skate Canada’s intent to submit a bid in April 2017, and if successful this will be Canada’s 11th time hosting the championships. Canada last hosted the event in 2013 in London, Ont.
“We are thrilled to be in the running to host the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2020. Canada has a strong hosting history and we would be honoured to hold the 2020 event,” said Skate Canada CEO Dan Thompson. “We are proud to have held the world championships 10 times previously and we know that if the ISU brings this event back to Canada we will continue our outstanding hosting record while inspiring not only Canadians to embrace the joy of skating, but people around the world.”
Skate Canada will select a potential host city by March 2017.
