Former Canadian ambassador named to Japanese order for building ties

VANCOUVER – Japan is decorating a former Canadian ambassador for building better relations between the two countries.

The consulate of Japan in Vancouver says in a news release that Donald Campbell will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star.

Campbell served as Canada’s ambassador to Japan from 1993 to 1997 and he is one of several foreign recipients of the 2015 Spring Imperial Decorations.

The consulate says Campbell helped develop recommendations that contributed to the revitalization of relations and continues to work with Japan and Canada institutions.

Campbell now works with the law firm DLA Piper (Canada) LLP. and assists Japanese companies that are considering investing in B.C.

A Japanese government website says the Order of the Rising Sun was established in 1875 as the country’s first award.
