Home invader no match for 95-year-old Penticton woman
PENTICTON – An elderly Penticton woman chased off a break-and-enter suspect, then helped police track him down last night.
The 95-year-old woman called police around midnight, Jan. 28, to say a man had just kicked in the front door of her Brandon Avenue home, according to a RCMP media release.
RCMP say she scared him off and he ran out the back door.
Police arrived and officers swarmed the area, setting up a perimeter and brought in Tig the police service dog.
Tig tracked the suspect to a cluster of thick thorn bushes near the Channel Parkway where a man matching the suspect's description was found, police say. He resisted both the police dog handler and the police dog, but was taken into custody after a second officer intervened.
The police dog handler broke his hand during the arrest.
A 47-year-old Penticton man is in custody and awaiting a court appearance.
