Controlled burn today in West Kelowna
WEST KELOWNA – You might see smoke today from a controlled burn in Glen Canyon Regional Park today in West Kelowna.
The regional district is burning fire hazard debris collected during a recent fuel modification project on about 15 hectares in the park between the trail entrances at Herbert and Brown Roads, and the Westbank Centre Park just south of the Gellatly Road parking lot, according to a media release.
The district has the appropriate permits from West Kelowna Fire Rescue despite the fact open burning is not allowed in the Central Okanagan today, Jan. 30.
A customs venting forecast from the B.C. Wildfire Service predicts good venting conditions in the park today, the release says.
More controlled burns to get rid of the potential wildfire fuel cut down during the fuel modification efforts will be held in the near future in Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park south of the Okanagan Connector and in Rose Valley Regional Park in West Kelowna.
