More open burning near West Kelowna and Peachland

WEST KELOWNA – Fire crews will be once again conducting open burning of debris around West Kelowna and Peachland today, Feb. 1.

Favourable venting conditions have made it possible for the Central Okanagan Regional District to burn off hazardous debris collected around Glen Canyon Regional Park in West Kelowna and Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park near Peachland.

The process of removing several hundred small piles of underbrush began last week and will continue today, according to a media release from the Regional District.

A large fuel mitigation project on over 15 hectares between trail entrances at Hebert and Brown Roads and Westbank Centre Park, south to the Gellatly Road parking area and Trepanier Creek south of the Okanagan Connector will require several days.

A ten hectare section of Rose Valley Regional Park off Pettman and Bowes Roads will also see occasional burning throughout the rest of winter and into spring.

Trails through these work areas may be temporarily closed and park users are asked to watch for signs advising they stay out of any closed areas.
