Mulscare: NDP’s Notley says Thomas Mulcair has no influence in Alberta campaign

EDMONTON – Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley is dismissing accusations that her federal counterpart, Thomas Mulcair, is playing a role in her campaign.

Notley says she has not spoken with Mulcair for months, and says she takes her cues only from Albertans.

Premier Jim Prentice has been warning voters for more than a week that an NDP win in Tuesday’s Alberta election would wreak havoc on the provincial economy.

He says the NDP plan to increase corporate taxes and review how much oil companies pay in royalties would be catastrophic for a province reeling from low oil prices.

Mulcair has been a polarizing figure in Alberta, with his criticism of pipelines that ship raw product abroad.

Notley notes her platform would look to create more oil refining jobs and would deliver tax incentives for companies to hire new staff.
