Suspect steals Hummer while victim is working out at the gym

VERNON – Instead of cooling down after a workout at a local fitness centre last night, one individual may have felt like boiling over after realizing someone went into their coat pocket and stole the keys to a Hummer parked outside.

The theft happened around 11:15 p.m., Jan. 31, while the victim was working out at Snap Fitness on 25 Avenue.

Police aren’t sure how the suspect got into the gym, which only gives access to members, but say it’s possible someone let him in, or that he caught the door behind someone.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says the unknown man took a set of car keys from the the victim’s coat pocket and subsequently stole a blue 2006 Hummer H3.

Other people working out at the fitness centre provided a description of the suspect, who is said to be between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a baseball cap and a white sweater.

Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to call the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
