Former embassy official’s husband pleads guilty in sex case
WASHINGTON – The husband of a former U.S. Embassy official in Morocco has pleaded guilty to abusing a former household staff member while living in Rabat.
The U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Columbia said Wednesday in a statement that 65-year-old Labib Chammas of Reston, Virginia, has pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual conduct.
Chammas’ wife, Judith Chammas, served as deputy chief of mission in Morocco.
In a plea agreement, Chammas acknowledged that from 2010 to 2013, while living in State Department-owned housing, he sexually abused a household staff member. Chammas acknowledged in the plea that he demanded the woman touch his genitals and attempted to force her to perform oral sex.
Chammas’ attorney didn’t immediately return a telephone call seeking comment. Sentencing was set for Jan. 4, 2017.
