Law society suspends Vancouver lawyer who admitted to professional misconduct

VANCOUVER – The Law Society of B.C. has suspended a lawyer for backdating clients’ account statements and improperly handling trust funds.

It says William Faminoff of Vancouver admitted at a hearing to eight allegations of professional misconduct between January 2007 and June 2010.

The society says Faminoff intended to mislead the society by backdating statements and withdrew money from a client’s trust account when there wasn’t enough money in the account.

It says he also failed to maintain accounting records and admitted to breach of undertaking he made to the Insurance Corp. of B.C.

The society says Faminoff’s two-month suspension will begin on July 1 and he will be required to pay hearing costs of $8,430.

The law society regulates the conduct of 11,000 practising lawyers in the province.
