Pony killed in early morning barn fire in Lake Country

LAKE COUNTRY – A pony was killed while three horses, along with some chickens and ducks, are homeless after a barn fire in Lake Country early this morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Brent Penner told Global Okanagan they received the call just after 5 a.m., Feb. 1.

“The homeowner did a good job releasing a couple of horses upon arrival but one pony was not able to escape,” he says.

The large blaze engulfed the home of three other horses, some chickens and ducks, however all managed to get out safely thanks to the firefighters.

Penner says the cause of the fire is likely electrical.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing however it is not considered suspicious.
