Temperatures to stick above zero in Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS – Locals woke up to a skiff of snow yesterday morning in Kamloops and there’s a chance for more later this week despite predicted temperatures above 0 Celsius.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of 1 C and a low of -3 C today, Feb. 2 with a mix of sun and cloud expected for most of the week.

There’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries for Wednesday with a high of 2 C and a low of 1 C.

Meteorologists say temperatures are expected to climb above seasonal normals later this week, reaching a high of 8 C on Thursday and a low of 1 C. By Friday, temperatures are expected to top around 9 C with a low of 1 C.

There is a moderate avalanche risk in the South Columbia region, according to Avalanche Canada. In the North Columbia region, there is a considerable risk along treeline sections where buried weak layers remain touchy.

Up at Sun Peaks, the ski hill received around six centimetres of new snow in the last day. The total alpine snow depth is 176 centimetres.
