Innocence Project attorneys take up 2nd case in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Lawyers with the Innocence Project in Puerto Rico who recently helped free three men found guilty of a 1988 murder are taking on their second case.
The attorneys on Monday requested a new trial for two men who have served more than 24 years in prison after being found guilty in the 1989 killing of a woman and her two young children.
Lawyers with the Interamerican University’s Innocence Project once again made use of a law approved in December 2015 that allows convicts to request DNA analyses based on new evidence or on evidence that was never analyzed or questioned at trial.
Both murder cases share similarities including involvement of the same former prosecutor.
The defence attorneys have requested a new trial.
