Drogba not in Impact lineup for playoff game against Red Bulls due to sore back

MONTREAL – Striker Didier Drogba, nursing a sore back, was not in the Montreal Impact lineup for a playoff game Sunday against the New York Red Bulls.

Drogba was to miss a third straight game, although for the first of those on Oct. 16 he was healthy but pulled himself out of the game after learning he would not be in the starting 11.

Coach Mauro Biello had hoped the Ivorian star would be ready for the first leg of the MLS Eastern Conference semifinal against New York. Drogba tweeted late Saturday he would not be able to play because of his back, however. His was not among the 18 names on the Impact lineup for the match.

Drogba recently lost his spot in the starting lineup to Italian Matteo Mancosu.
