Iran’s parliament approves 3 new ministers

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s parliament has approved President Hassan Rouhani ‘s three nominees for the posts of culture, education and sport ministers.

The Tuesday vote came after more than seven hours of discussion in parliament in which Rouhani introduced Reza Salehi Amiri as minister of culture, Masoud Soltanifar as minister of sport and Fakhroddin Ahmadi Danesh Ashtiani as minister of education. State TV broadcast the vote live.

The changes are part of a cabinet reshuffle ahead of next May’s presidential election, when Rouhani will seek to appeal to a younger generation of voters. Some 50 per cent of Iran’s nearly 80 million citizens are under 30 years old.
