Hogs versus hosers hockey match proceeds donated to hospital fund
PENTICTON – Penticton police and firefighters presented the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation with a donation following their Battle of the Badges matchup at Memorial Arena last Sunday, January 31.
The charity hockey game between the two emergency service groups raised $954 which will go towards equipping the new patient care tower set to begin construction at Penticton Regional Hospital this spring.
Spectra Venue Management donated the ice surface at Memorial Arena for the game.
Police skated away with a convincing 12-3 victory over the firefighters in the game, also dubbed "Hogs versus Hosers."
It’s important to note, however, the referee for the game was Penticton RCMP Cst. Don Wrigglesworth.
“As fire and police personnel, we deal with Penticton Regional Hospital constantly in our work and we see the great care they provide those suffering from accidents and other trauma,” Wrigglesworth says. “We also deal with the hospital on a personal level, as many of our children were born there. We see this as a great investment in our hometown.”
